33.
• Jason started to tell me about The Mushroom Collector, and about how a series of found images had quietly crept into his work.
• At the turn of the century, the red-light district in New Orleans was known as ‘Storyville’.
• 1958 – Larry Borenstein, a ‘junk/art dealer’, shows Lee Friedlander glass plate negatives by E.J. Bellocq.
• 1965 – Hurricane Betsy causes water damage and cracking on some of Bellocq negatives.
• 1966 – Friedlander purchases Bellocq’s negatives from Borenstein.
• 1970 – MoMA exhibits and publishes Bellocq: Storyville Portraits.
• 1977 – Friedlander begins work on Nudes.
• 1991 – MoMA exhibits (and Friedlander publishes) Lee Friedlander: Nudes.
• I bought Friedlander’s book off eBay; just like in the picture, the book arrived with a blank yellow post-it note on its cover.
